5 Ways to Show Your Pets Love

I'm sure that all of you pet lovers out there know how to love your animal. To even consider loving them more could even seem a bit far-FETCHED (okay, that was good and you know it). They love us so they must know that we love them in return, right? While this is somewhat true, isn't it even better to feel even more loved?
Now, how do we do this with people? We take our loved ones out for food or activities, buy them gifts, give them hugs and kisses, and lots of attention necessary to build on a successful relationship (of any kind).
Though we already know that our animals love and depend on us, shouldn't we show them the same amount of appreciation as we do with human companions?
How do I show my cat/dog/monkey/squirrel that I love them more than I do now? Here are some ideas:
1. Take him outside!: Whether you've a cat, dog, bunny or bearded dragon, your pet really loves the outside. Animals are the same as we are- they weren't made to hide out inside of a house for their whole lives. Even if you just set up a playpen in the backyard, take your animal outside to run, play and just get some fresh air. He/she will love you so much more for having made this time for them.
2. Treats and toys!: Just like humans, animals do not like being bored or feeling restless. If your animal does not own any toys, get him some immediately! How bored would you be if you spent your whole life inside with nothing to stimulate your brain? Answer: VERY
Toys are also very good for strengthening jaws, encouraging exercise and playing games with or without you!
3. Physical Touch: Like people, animals require a lot of reassurance and affection through physical touch. An animal not being pet for a long time is like a person not receiving a hug when they need it (especially if you like hugs as much as I do, it sucks!). When you touch your animal, you not only remind him that you love him but you strengthen that pet/owner bond even more. A little bit of attention goes a long way.
4. Treats: If your animal shows that they love you very much (ex. waits for you to come home, jumps up to give you kisses, behaves extra well on a walk, sits with you when you're sad) reward him with a treat! It's obvious that animals love food, so that makes gift-giving super easy! Bring home a special treat every once in a while and he will sit, stay or walk whenever you'd like (that is if he is already trained or in training, I don't want to promise a miracle).
5. Grant Access to your bed: Now, a lot of people do not allow their cat, dog, monkey or rock to sleep on their bed (yes, I just used a rock as an example of a pet and it was SOLID). Sometimes this is for sanitary reasons, other times it's to maximize personal space or put up boundaries so their pet stays well behaved. If you are against it, that's okay, but I highly recommend it. Cuddling with your animal adds to their physical reassurance and it really makes them feel more like your friend. I used to cuddle with my basset hound, Louie and Pit Bull, Jasmine (RIP 9.2.17) every night, and it formed an even stronger loyalty than before. Plus, dogs are the best snugglers.
If you know of more ways that your animal feels loved, give them that attention frequently
I lost Jasmine not even three days ago and I wish so badly that I showed her how much I loved her. I know that she knows that I love her immensely, but I still wish that I had treated her even more like the princess that she was.
This post is dedicated to you, Jasmine. It wasn't your time, baby girl.
