I Killed Your Dog- Now I'm Suing You

In the past couple of days, my family and I have dealt with more than one misfortune. As many of you know, about a week ago, we lost our dog, Jasmine. The loss has been incredibly difficult for all of us, but it has weighed particularly heavy on my mother. She witnessed the car accident and did all in her power to save her life. Just when things seem like they couldn't get any worse, she hears a knock at the door. A policeman is there to collect her insurance information for the damages done to her car. The woman that hit and paralyzed our Jasmine is suing my family for damages done to her car. ss

I am still at a loss for words. This woman saw my dog wreathing in pain and then watched my mother and step-father in absolute panic mode trying to save their baby's life. Though I almost wish I could blame her for the accident, I can't- it was dark and Jasmine was a dark dog. She probably couldn't have avoided her if she wanted to. That being said, her vehicle was still the thing that killed our baby. If that were me, I would never forgive myself- I would be doing all that I could to show the family just how sorry I felt. I just don't understand how anyone could act so selfishly during such a time.

I wish that I had a point to this post, but I really don't. If I had to pick one out it would be simply that the world does not care about your circumstance. Some people are all about principles- so what your dog died? My car is damaged and it's your fault. Though I believe that all people have goodness within them, this is where the grey area comes in. Sometimes ethics are drowned out by the sounds of money going into one's wallet... I wish that weren't the case.
