Need to Simmer Down?

Every now and then, we're going to get angry. Whether it feels more like mild irritation, confused anger or intense rage- we all get this way now and then. Some are better at controlling it than others- I generally find myself to be a fairly calm and peaceful person. Today however, I found a stress rash on my face and have been pacing the floor and yelling songs, extremities and pleas in my car. If you ever find yourself having a day like my today, here are some tips to help flush the deep pink from your cheeks.
1. Workout... a LOT:
I was in the gym today for an hour and by the end of it I was still steaming. If you have to, run until the world makes sense again. Hike until you reach the highest peak. Do something that tires out and tames the crazy/toxic/angry thoughts in your head.
2. Go For a Walk/Run:
It so does not help for you to sit inside of the house when you're frustrated- and you'll feel it. Even as I'm writing this I feel like a linguistically savvy lion in a cage. A change of pace and scenery will give you a different view and help you to gain a different perspective on things. If the world seems to be going crazy and nothing makes sense, go mobile for some fresh, untainted air and cleanse yo aura.
3. Meditate: Some things don't need to be thought through- they need to be set aside. Sitting in silence and doing deep, mindful breathing can help to translate that calm to your brain. When you calm your body, your mind relaxes too.
4. Kick/Hit Something
Be sure to use a pillow, punching back, soccer ball or something else that can't break- but this shit works. I spent the last thirty minutes kicking a soccer ball with a friend and I've gotta tell ya, my legs are my favorite place to channel my power. Directing anger towards an inanimate object can help a person to channel rage into power. In doing so, you'll burn through your adrenaline faster and take out all of that negative energy on something that can't get hurt/hurt you back. Just, of course make sure you throw your kicks/punches in proper form, otherwise you will hurt yourself.
5. Write/Draw/Sing/Play About it If you're not one to channel rage through physical activities, try your favorite creative outlet. When I was going through my eating disorder, I wrote a lot of poetry. Even if it's something that you don't typically do, if the action will help you to get out your stress, don't hold back.
6.Just. Scream.
Here are a list of suggested words/phrases that I use myself:
1. Gosh darn it!
2. FUUUUCK!
3. Son of a shit!
4. COCKIN HOCKIN LOCK (inside joke, but now a family sequence of curse words/threats)
5.What the fucking fuck!
6.well darn.
In all seriousness, sometimes a good holler really helps to expel the verbal stress that's building up. Don't hold back (unless you're at work or surrounded by children), you are human with a voice, and the expelling of words can do a lot.
I really needed this and I'm glad that I got a bit of my stress out through this post. I hope that you guys can also find some use in this if the time ever rises.
