Don't Lose The Love: 5 Ways to Bring Back The Romance

Like a river in the winter, life's pace can randomly and rapidly pick up. We get so wrapped up doing things that we really want to do or are expected to do- and that's totally cool! Unfortunately, this means that sometimes you’re unable to spend proper time with your significant other. This especially comes into play in a long-distance relationship- we both get so busy that our schedules don’t align, and we’ll go nights without video chatting or even talking to one another. It’s alright at first, but after a while it starts to take its toll.

If you find yourself so close but so far away from your love, here are some easy ways to let them know that you’re always there (even when you can’t be):

1. Thoughtful Messages: It’s crazy how much a handwritten note can affect someone’s day. Even something as simple, as cute little pun post its on the coffee:

- “Please don’t mean mug me, I won’t be home until late tonight- but I love you so very much.

-"Have wonderful day and enjoy your cafe! I love you!”

-“Know why you don't need sugar- you’re already so sweet! I love you!”

Yes, they’re supposed to be silly and cringey! The point is that it can be so easy to write something so sweet that your guy/gal is thinking about you all day. I myself am too far away to do this, but I always make sure that I send letters, texts and cute selfies whenever I’ve the chance. Even a simple “I love you cutie and I’m thinking of you!” text can have such a crazy affect on their day.

2. Random Flowers/Food: If you have a spare couple of minutes or you just so happen to go into the grocery store for more energy drinks, buy something sweet for your sweetheart! Flowers, chocolates, mac n cheese- treat him/her right with the floral/fruity favorites. Set it up with a note in your dining room or leave it on her porch. I’m unable to do this, but on Ben’s birthday I got our mutual friend to bring him to breakfast for me. There are always ways to send love, even from 2,000 miles away!

*Bonus points if you bring them by his/her work. Be that awesome boy/girlfriend!*

3. Send Love Songs: We all listen to music, even when we're on a grind. If you just so happen to think of you're love while listening, send the song! Music has an effect on every bit of your brain, so if you're feeling the love, he/she will too (unless it's country and they hate country. Then my friend, I caution you).

4. Make an Effort to Find Time: There are 24 hours in a day and sometimes it really does feel like every minute is dedicated to something important. The thing is, your love and his feelings are definitely important (If they aren't, you've gotta take a moment to acknowledge that). If it's been three days since you've spend any time with him, look into it. If you can spare your next lunch break or swing by his work and give him a kiss- do it! It is so important to prioritize your significant other, you don't want the waiting to turn to neglect- you'll lose him.

5. Make Plans For Happily Ever After: If you really can't make time to see her in person, choose a day to really make it up to her. Bring her somewhere special and get it all in one day: show up at her house with pun noted flowers and chocolates, playing/singing your song while playing the banjo (feel free to omit the banjo part. I would).

The point is this: even if you get so busy that you feel like you don't have time to breathe, it is so important to make your love feel important. He can be understanding for so long until he starts to feel neglected. Don't neglect the romance, protect the romance!
