Happy New Year, everyone! I hope that everyone had an absolutely dazzling holiday, and that you're totally set to go back to your job/school! Today's step towards self transformation is going to be to officially decide what you're transforming into- which is totally perfect for the New Year! In doing this, you aren't merely choosing the home, job, body, spouse, or life that you want for yourself. No, this is going to be a simple phrase that encompasses everything that you strive to be, that you believe in and everything that you are.
I know that this can seem a little scary, determining the single sentence that decides the essence of your entire existence- but don't Sorry! You may alter it as many times as you'd like. The vast majority of people are not going to find their all explaning mantra after the first whack at it. Personally, it took a lot of contemplation and finally letting it go for me to find the words of my mind, my body, and my soul.
If you're having a hard time finding the words or putting them together, a few things to consider are:
1. What Do You Believe In?: Are you spiritual? Are you humble? Are you the kind of person to drop everything to go and help the ones that you love? Are you more work oriented or more family oriented? Is it important to you to be mentally and physically strong? If the answer is different from that which you desire, write your desired life into your mantra. Remember, you can be whomever you'd like to be- don't let life's expectations of you tromp your expectations of you.
2. What Is It That You Desire?: Are you pursuing riches? A family? A new home? A really really cool car? Have you always wanted sufficient space for a pet? To be in the same state as your significant other? Think about the words that come up when you picture all of the things that you see in your future. Single out the few that really stand out to you and write them down. They'll single themselves out and fall into place all on their own, so be patient.
3. How Can You Encompass These Ideas in One Short Phrase?: I've found that it's most impacting to start your mantra with "I am"- as it is beginning your mantra not as a mere statement, but a powerful, personal declaration. After declaring that "you are", choose broad, dramatic words that hit your core and make the sounds of your soul. An example of this would be choosing between "like" and "love". If your mantra is "I am a person that likes to..." the effect isn't as strong. If you're not going for power, you're going about it halfheartedly and therefore ineffectively.
(Goodness, I love corgis)
4. How Can You Make Your Mantra A Reality?: It is so important that you refer back to your mantra on a daily basis. Write it somewhere that you will always see it- on your mirror, on a poster that you tape to your door, your ceiling above your bed, above your vision board, a notification on your phone, etc. There are so many ways that you can keep your mission statement relevant, and that is the most important part. If you want to be really efficient, you can rewrite it a few times every morning. Think about it, if you never see your mantra, how are you going to keep it in your consciousness every day? If you're not conscious of who you want to be, then how are you ever going to be that person?
I myself actually revised my personal mantra for the New Year, this morning: I am working diligently and passionately at what I love. I'm surrounded by love, spending lots of quality time with The Love of My Life, friends and family. I'm also very well grounded and connected to my thoughts, energies and my body. I'm in love with life and life is in love with me.
Also,
Be a Motherfucking Badass.
