How to Dismiss Fear- Get What You Want

Everyone dreams about something. Some dream about money, power and success while others dream about loving families in humble homes. Children are good at this- they allow themselves to believe in the "improbable". They choose a sport and go at it, training and playing like their futures depend on it. They decide their future place in presidency and come up with laws to introduce once elected- even if one of them is to "banish my sister".

As children, we believe that we can do anything that we want to- until someone tells us that we can't. Our parents, peers or media introduce the notion that everything isn't possible, but failure is entirely possible. Before this point, we are floating on the cloud nine that overlooks fantasy futures; then our elders introduce something that was only familiar when dealing with bugs, snakes and/or bullies- fear.

Our brains are not naturally wired to help us out in uncomfortable situations. Essentially, when you do something scary, you are risking the compromise of stability. This is why it's so hard to drag yourself out of bed, ask out the pretty, smart girl and quit your steady (albeit unfulfilling) job- your mind pulls the emergency break every time.

We aren't built to thrive but to survive.

Now we know that the simple way to do something is to do it.

So the question here is- how do we beat fear to the punch? How do we get up enough energy and force to break the comfort zone and enter the realm of potential awesomeness?

1. Disconnect The Two:

Break the hold that fear has founded on your dream. Write, talk and think about your dream in the best case scenario. Then, reverse and think, talk and write your way through the worst case scenarios. How can you prevent/ recover from each situation? Put yourself in the uncomfortable position and imagine your fears- then imagine yourself overcoming them.

This is the most difficult step in the process, but also the longest lasting. The more that you overcome fear, the less able it is to overcome you.

2. Make a decision - difference between comfort and satisfaction:

One of the most powerful ways to ensure an immediate and persistent change is to make the decision that you are worth more than what you currently have. You are no longer satisfied with comfort and mediocre stability; you're ready to let your intense desires for change pull you towards total and complete awesomeness.

3. Energize and execute:

"Stay in your head, you're dead" ~ Tony Robbins

Fear feeds on doubt and low energy. The more energy and drive that you can build and project, the more focused that you will be. The more focused you are, the less attention fear will be able to steal from you.

4. Backup Energizer:

I'm going to tell you right now, even if you find a way to rev yourself up and keep going for a while, you'll eventually need a backup plan. If your normal energizing methods are just not elevating you, try this:

While you're in this heightened state of determination and positive energy, record a self motivating video or find someone to confide in that will lift you up whenever you feel like you're drifting too low. After assuring that you've given your body and mind the appropriate amount of time to recoup and rest, go to your backups and re-inspire yourself.

5. Go Get Em:

Dive head first into your dreams and do not stop for anything or anybody. If something comes up, change your approach. If you feel like you just can't do it anymore, let your own motivations and desires pull you up off of the floor. If you get stuck in your head and start to feel afraid, detach yourself, look fear in the face and say "I respect your place in my life, and I know that you're trying to protect me, but I have to do this."
