Your Thoughts (AND ACTIONS) Influence Reality

You are given a powerful choice: do you want greatness?

It is entirely up to you whether you master your favorite craft, conquer your biggest fear or make the money of your dreams.

The thing is, it's so easy to conceptualize greatness.

Through methods like social media, Netflix and video games, we are offered so many different pictures and stories that are so much "better" or "more interesting" than our own lives. Today, many people pride themselves on how many episodes of The Office that they can watch consecutively. I've actually heard someone say that they have "perfected the art of Netflix bingeing."

I want to take a second to note that I don't mean to say that occasional indulgence is wrong- each activity is accompanied with its own benefits. For example, Ben and I have started watching Once Upon a Time together and we absolutely love it. After a stressful day or week, it's so nice to have something that we both enjoy and can indulge in from time to time. With that being said. Another example is my dad who enjoys playing God of War every once in a while to unwind. He loves the story, the graphics, the characters and he gets really excited when he plays it on his surround sound set up.

The distinction that I want to make is in the amount of time spent doing such activities. Think about it this way, if you spend two hours a week watching TV then you're watching about 104 hours per year. That's more than four days that you did nothing but sit on your butt and watch TV. It's a lot, but comparatively it could be worse.

Most people actually do this for two or more hours a day in which case, they're spending 730 hours, that's an entire month just watching television.

The distinction becomes even more dramatic when we talk about social media.

The average amount of time spent on a phone is 8 hours a day for teens from the age 15-18. Of course, this includes activities such as listening to music, which I am guilty of as well.

The point of this post? To get you guys to realize how much time you're wasting watching the Kardashians or following models on Instagram.

The truth is, their lives are the way that they are because they made themselves that way. All of those bikini models that have a slim stomach and bigger butt than what should even be possible for their body type- they look like that because they worked for it.

There's a major distinction between the people that wish that things could get better and the people that actively work and believe that things are going to get better.

If you've been stuck with a problem- be it weight gain, low income, depression, or wanting a relationship- it's not going to go away. The more you ignore your issues by swiping away on your phone, the only thing you're going to "swipe away" is your time. You're already in short supply, why would you do that to yourself?

Yesterday, I went for a run on the local hiking trail. When I first hit those hills, I just "could not" do it. I have asthma and large breasts that yank on my chest when I run, couldn't I have just gone walking? No, because I've done plenty of freaking walking, I wanted to run and I knew that just doing it is the only thing that's going to improve my performance. With the power withing and taking occasional breaks so that my legs didn't give out, I was able to complete 30 minutes of running. Uphill! But how?

1.Getting up and putting on my running clothes (even though I did not want to)

2. Empowering myself with high energy music

3. Changing the thoughts in my head from "this is Hell" to "This is so awesome, I've got this!"

4. Doing it.

As great as it would be to just absorb all of the beauty and intelligence from technology, that's not how life works. If it were that easy, everyone would have a six pack, nice butt and trophy wife/husband, but alas it's not.

You have to actually start empowering yourself to make it happen.

Or you can just sit and watch more TV.

It's really up to you.
