What's The "Right Way" to Practice Spirituality

Let me start by saying that this is a VERY loaded question with a lot of answers. The easiest one is that it depends on you, because there are a lot of ways to connect with yourself spiritually.
The beauty of spiritual exploration is that there is no right or wrong way to do it. So long as you are remaining mindful and considering the growth and development of your higher self, you are on the right path. Some people may try to enforce their personal ideals on you. While there is nothing wrong with trying new things and gaining insight on other ways of practice, you do not have to apply anything to your practices that you do not believe in. The best methodology is to remain open to learning, accept others and their differing opinions and continue to follow what you believe in.
For example, I have a friend that I talk to quite frequently about spirituality. We connect once every other week or so to talk about our most recent endeavors and realizations- to have the conversations that we fear most others could never understand. Most of the time, such conversations feel really supportive and insightful. Last time we spoke, however he made a comment regarding my desire to read and learn from the stories of others. He then suggested that I instead try a psychedelic to find “everything that I’ve been looking for.” While I appreciate his methods and appreciate that they may help him, his suggestion instantly turned me away from our conversation.
If you want to continue to be a part of someone’s journey, it is imperative that you continue to respect and encourage the ways that they grow. Once you’ve discouraged someone for the way that they feel so deeply about life, you’re likely to create some detrimental distance.
Connect with yourself in a way that feels right. If you enjoy chanting while hiking barefoot, go for it. If you’d prefer to do Westernized yoga and meditation with earphones, do that. Don’t let anyone tell you that you are doing too much or not enough. On the other side of the same coin, feel free to experiment! Take part in practices that make you exhilarated, alive and one with your truest self. That’s the whole point, so don’t worry about what others discourage or suggest unless you’d like to find a method that could work better for you.
