The Phoenix
Oh how the great ones fall
And I was the best
With a crown on my head
Satin sheets on my bed
I had everything going to plan.
That is, until it all fell.
My home, my kingdom, my "nest"
Atop the highest of hills
On which I could no longer rest
For I faced a battle of wills.
Fought to catch flight
From the start I was doomed
No matter my might.
Oh how the mightiest fall
None were above me
Not a creature could spark
Such a fiery heart
Like the flames on my wings
So I gave in to the chaos
Let it burn all my things.
There's nothing more humble
Than burning alive
Looking in from the gutters
Instead of being inside.
Now I just lay here
In scattered heaps of trash
For I was a phoenix
But now, I am just ash.
